A Surgeon Who Never Stops Evolving
Dr. Robert Lupo is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who has directed robotic joint replacement at AHN Saint Vincent since 2015. He is the only surgeon in the Erie region combining MAKO robotic-assisted technology with muscle-sparing approaches for both knee and hip replacement.
Dr. Lupo focuses on robotic-assisted joint replacement. He uses CT-based planning and an enhanced workflow to assess implant position, alignment, and soft-tissue balance while remaining in control of every step of the procedure.
His modified subvastus knee approach reaches the joint beneath the quadriceps, preserves the quadriceps tendon, and does not cut the quadriceps muscle. His direct anterior hip approach goes between natural muscle planes—no muscles are cut, split, or detached from bone.
Dr. Lupo has refined these muscle-sparing approaches for robotic planning. He encourages patients to look beyond branded program names and ask about the actual approach, surgeon experience, evidence, hospital support, and individualized recovery plan.
